Most Akita dogs aren’t that keen on getting wet. Perhaps it has to do with their dense coat. One time Kensho fell in a pond by accident and it took nearly 24 hours for him to dry.
But Kensho does like to get in the water up to knee height (like we do when it’s cold or forgot our swimming suit). He likes to run with his mouth open, gulping the water and he’s drinking just for fun (like we do when we go out; the ‘drinking for fun’ part I mean
).

It’s a perfect way to get the dirt of his coat from digging that big hole earlier today.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackA friend asked me once if my Akita liked water. Without thinking I replied, “well, yes, if there are ducks in it….” My Akita died a year ago (age 11) but I remember that as the perfect way to describe the Akita/water relationship.
Hi Erika,
That is so true
The only time Kensho went further into the water was when there were multiple ducks swimming in front of him. For just one or two he won’t bother. He didn’t catch one of them (as he was still on a leash).
Thanks for sharing. It made me laugh. Sad though you lost your Akita a year ago. You must miss him a lot!
All the best,
Barbara
