Today is the day I had to pick Kensho. There are four male Akita pups to choose from and I had to pick within the hour.
What to do? What to look for? Which pup is going to be my dog for hopefully many years to come?

All four Akita puppies are healthy, though two of them are smaller and one is clearly the biggest. Initially I have a preference for the largest pup, assuming he is the strongest. Then when I zoom in on his behavior he also seems lazy and kind a dull.

I pick up one puppy at a time and notice how they respond to this. Are they relaxed when I pick them up and lift them off their feet? Do they have confidence in me when I hold them up side down? Some puppies get tensed but there is one that is relaxed about all of this. It’s the one with the white legs.

As the puppies go to another room they face a barrier. The floor is elevated and their size makes it difficult to climb. Many struggle. But one just takes a run for it and jumps right on. No problem! His brothers are still struggling, trying to lift their bodies onto the elevated floor. I sympathize with the clever one.

As I’m drinking my coffee it’s the clever one with the long white legs that comes and sits next to me. Guess this really must be Kensho and then all of a sudden, after hesitating and second guessing, I just know for sure… this is Kensho. This is the one!

Are you ready to meet him?
