Choose an Akita breeder wisely as you’ll be likely asking them for guidance and advice in the future. Make sure the breeder of your choice is paying attention to socialization of the Akita pups before they leave their mother and siblings. Some rules for an Akita breeder to comply with are:

  1. The male and female dog used for mating should not have a relationship such as brother-sister, father-daughter or mother-son.
  2. The minimum age for a male Akita dog has to be at least 12 months at the day of mating.
  3. A male Akita may produce an unlimited amount of nests per calender year but only a limited amount during his total life time.
  4. The bitch must be between 16 and 96 months of age at the time of mating.
  5. The bitch should not be older than 72 months when it’s her first litter.
  6. An Akita bitch may not produce more than 5 litters.
  7. An Akita bitch is allowed to have up to 2 litters in a period of 24 months.
